The IEEE Award for Continuing and Significant Contributions in the Field of Large Scale Applications of Superconductivity to be presented to Evgeny Yu. Klimenko

The Council on Superconductivity is pleased to announce the selection of Prof. Evgeny Yu. Klimenko (retired) to receive the IEEE Award for Continuing and Significant Contributions in the Field of Applied Superconductivity. This IEEE Award recognizes a living individual for a career of meritorious achievements and outstanding technical contributions in the field of applied superconductivity.

The Award will be presented to Prof. Klimenko during the 25th International Conference on Magnet Technology to be held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from August 27 through September 1, 2017. Prof. Klimenko will receive a plaque, an inscribed medallion, and a cash award of US $5,000.

Citation

Prof. Klimenko will be recognized for continuing and significant contributions in the field of large scale applications of superconductivity, in particular:
  • for pioneering works on the forced-flow cooled superconducting magnets,
  • for discovery and proof of the key role of smooth superconducting-to-normal state transition for stable operation of superconducting magnets with high current density, and
  • for development of the T-15 conductor and qualification program for the first in the world Nb3Sn superconducting Tokamak.
