Nazanin Bassiri-Gharb is the Harris Saunders Jr. Chair and a Professor in the G.W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech, with a courtesy appointment in the School of Materials Science and Engineering. She received her laurea (BSMS) degree Summa cum Laude from University deli Studi di Padova in Italy and her PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Penn State. She was a Senior Research Engineer at the QUALCOMM MEMS Research and Innovation Center, before joining Georgia Tech as an assistant professor. She is a Past President of IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society (2018-2019) and a Past President of the IEEE Council on Radio Frequency Identification (2021-2023). Prof. Bassiri-Gharb’s research interests lie in processing-structure-properties in electromechanically active oxides, manufacturing approaches for functional ceramics at the small scale, enabling the next-generation of micro- and nano-scale devices, with applications in energy, environment, health, and security, and nanoscale characterization of the functional response at the nanoscale.
