Richard J. "Dick" Thome was born March 1, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Walter and Mary Thome. He is survived by his loving wife, Eileen; and his daughters, Jeanne Thome, Kathleen Lepley and Marilyn (Phillip) Pine; siblings, Jane Eaton, Walter (Marie) Thome, William (Joyce) Thome and Mary Ann (Bill) Roe; many nieces and nephews and their families. He is also preceded in death by his brother Robert Thome. A proud Army Air Force veteran of WWII, he served in the China Burma India Theater. After the war, he became a charter member of the CBI Veterans Association, and served as the State and Local Commander. He graduated from the University of Dayton in 1950, where he received a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. In 2000, he became a Golden Flyer as a 50 year Alum of the University. A member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Dick was an usher, served on Parish Council, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired from Toledo Scale after 25 years of dedicated service.
Richard J. Thome was born in Buffalo, New York on 17 September 1940. He grew up in Buffalo and graduated from Hutchinson Central Technical High School. Thome continued his education at Syracuse University, earning a B.M.E. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. He is a member of the IEEE Council on Superconductivity; the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; and Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honors society. He has spent his career working in both industry and academia.
