CSC Young Professionals Spotlight - Halima Giovanna Ahmad
Name: Halima Giovanna Ahmad
Position: CSC Young Professionals Committee Member
What do you do for the IEEE Council of Superconductivity (CSC) YP committee?
I am happily involved in the IEEE CSC YP committee since more than 5 years. Even though I am not that young anymore, and in a phase of my career with other more boring things need to be taken care of, I still believe that the effort in promoting YP is so valuable that I try as much as I can to support the initiatives of the committee. I had participated in the organization of the Superconductivity Talks, ASC2022-2024 volunteering, and I was in time a bridge between IEEE CSC and ESAS.
Which aspect of the IEEE CSC do you find most beneficial to your career?
IEEE CSC is a big organization that bridges together large-scale, materials and electronics macroareas together, and is a point of Reference for engineers and physicists all around the world. Connection and visibility is the most valuable aspect for my career.
What do you currently work on regarding Superconductivity?
I am currently supervising the experimental activities on the first superconducting quantum Computing Center in Italy, in the frame of the National Center for HPC, Big Data and Quantum Computing. Our tactic is a modular and bottom-up approach: from the study of the most fundamental elements in quantum superconducting processors (the Josephson junctions), up to the design of novel superconducting qubits and superconducting quantum devices design, fabrication, testing and applications in the realm of the Noisy and Intermediate Scale Quantum era.
What ignited your interest in the field of superconductivity and your current area of focus?
The challenge. So many unanswered questions, so many difficult tasks that, however, promise so much for the community... As a Researcher, I think there's nothing more thrilling than this.
In your opinion, what role can YP play in making a significant impact on advancing the field of superconductivity?
IEEE CSC YP has the potential to connect the scientists and bright mind of the future. The most important advancements of humanity comes from collaborations. Team making, scientific promotion, with the right dose of equity is the Key for the advancement of any scientific field, and superconductivity is not excluded!
What are your favorite hobbies outside of work?
Randomly singing in a rock band for fun, learning to play drums, sci-fi fictions and reading Stephen King books!
