Council Support for Students & Recent Graduates

The IEEE Council on Superconductivity (CSC) is committed to promoting students and recent graduates in the field of superconductivity. Student assistance for attending conferences (registration and travel stipends), an annual fellowship, and multiple student networking & professional development events are offered.

Financial assistance for conference attendance

IEEE CSC has dedicated a limited fund to provide financial assistance to students and recent graduates who are presenting at conferences related to applied superconductivity such as the Applied Superconductivity Conference (ASC), the International Superconductive Electronics Conference (ISEC), the Magnet Technology Conference (MT), and other Conferences that develop an agreement with CSC. Applicants are expected to be or become IEEE student members as well as members of one of the CSC-affiliated IEEE Societies.

Assistance is available to cover conference registration fees and, in some exceptional cases, additional support in the form of a partial travel stipend may be provided. Students must meet the eligibility requirement and submit the required forms in a timely manner to be considered. Support will be limited to attendees who can demonstrate that they would not be able to attend without such support. Priority is given to students and young scientists from institutions and countries with limited means.

For further details regarding application procedures and requirements please consult the “Financial Support” link on the website of each respective conference.

Fellowship in applied superconductivity

The IEEE CSC Graduate Study Fellowship in Applied Superconductivity is awarded annually to a full-time graduate student pursuing a PhD (or equivalent) degree in the area of applied superconductivity, at an accredited college or university of recognized standing worldwide. Applications must be received no later than January 15th of the year for which the Award may be granted. More information about the award and eligibility requirements can be found at the link below.

Student networking, professional development, & Young Professional events

These events are aimed at providing students with the opportunity to meet with and learn from professionals in their community about career insights and opportunities. Some of these events include Lunch & Learn, and Women in SC events. For more information about upcoming networking, professional development events please refer to the “Student Activities” tab of each respective conference. Everyone is welcome to participate in supporting the women of applied superconductivity at their CWsWiSE workshop please visit: http://www.cwswise.org/ for details.

In addition to the student activities, the Council's affinity group for Young Professionals hosts events that are focused on helping students during their transition to young professionals within their professional community. IEEE student members are automatically added to the IEEE young professionals member community upon graduation. Please look for Young Professional events at upcoming CSC conferences.

For High School Students and Younger:

The program invites high school students to experience several different fields of engineering in an on-campus environment.
