CSC Italy Chapter

The first workshop of the series on “Applied Superconductivity in Italy”, hosted in Rome in 2017, saw the participation of the IEEE-CSC officers.

Recent Events

The Italy Chapter of CSC (CSC-IT) has been the first Chapter formed by the CSC, in December 2014. The main motivation was to establish a link between the various sub-communities of engineers, physicists, and scientists at large: the applied superconductivity community was as vibrant as somehow dispersed into those sub-communities.

A workshop series on “Applied Superconductivity in Italy” was successfully established since 2017. The workshop started as a satellite of the annual CSC-IT Volunteer Meeting, but developed then as an independent event, aiming at presenting the major projects in applied superconductivity to the community. Starting with the 2022 edition, held in hybrid format with more than 50 attendants, the workshop hosts a Special Guest Scientist, a prominent Italian scientist working abroad, or a scientist with a project with important links to the Italian community, who present their projects to the Italy community.

An important share of the activities of CSC-IT concerns the involvement of students and young researchers. Recently, CSC-IT started some activities with the Young Professional Group of the Italy Section. Concerning specific events, since 2017 a series of lectures was held, covering many aspects of the applied superconductivity from power to rf applications. Young researchers are keenly involved In giving such lectures. To make direct contact with Master and PhD Students, the yearly (apart from pandemic restrictions) “Superconductivity around the Corner”, one-day visit to the Superconductivity Laboratories of ENEA, is now an established tradition.
